Apple releases supplier list giving insight into procurement practices

Technology giant Apple has provided new insight into its procurement operations by publishing details of its suppliers, after fielding heavy criticism for not policing worker conditions. 

Combined, the 156 firms listed in its supplier responsibility report account for 97 per cent of its purchasing by revenue.

"Apple is committed to driving the highest standards for social responsibility throughout our supply base. We require that our suppliers provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, and use environmentally responsible manufacturing processes," Apple stated in a report.

Meanwhile an annual internal audit of its supply chain showed that just 38 per cent of the company's suppliers adhered to Apple's own standard of a maximum 60 hour work week and minimum one day off per week.
