Austrade has resumed its services in Japan after they were suspended in order to deliver consular services following the recent devastating earthquake and tsunami.

All Austrade offices in Japan are now open as basic services commenced in Tokyoon 4 April, while services commenced in Fukuoka and Osaka on 28 March. The full suite of services will be made available from 11 April.

While the tragic effects of the natural disasters in Japan are still unfolding, there continues to be uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the Fukushima nuclear power plant emergency and the impact of any further aftershocks.

However, Japan’s previous experience of natural disasters suggests that growth will return in the medium to long term, driven by the need for reconstruction and investment in new plant and equipment in the affected areas.

DFAT is still recommending that all Australians contemplating a visit to Japan should consult the its Smartraveller website for the latest travel advice.
