Australian company to handle procurement in Brazil iron ore deal.

WorleyParsons of Australia, will partner Montreal-based SNC Lavalin Group Inc, to supply engineering and project-management services for a three-phase iron-ore processing project in Brazil. The project will have an annual capacity of 90 million tonnes, costing several billion dollars. The companies announced the contract award yesterday in Montreal and Sydney, but would not disclose the cost of the processing plant located almost 2,000 kilometres north of Sao Paulo and near some of Vale's massive ore reserves. SNC-Lavalin will engineer the infrastructure, overland conveying systems, civil works and electrical plant and provide key members to the project-management team. WorleyParsons, with broad iron-ore industry experience in Australia, will handle procurement and construction management for the processing plant itself.
