Various Australian suppliers have addressed European Union (EU) procurement processes to win contracts for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The London Organising Committee (LOCOG) looked for capability worldwide, with Australian suppliers having to compete with suppliers already operating in the UK to secure London contracts.
Australian suppliers were required to adhere to the procurement processes followed by European Union rules.

“This process was open to Australian suppliers, but bidders for the tier one construction projects had to demonstrate established integration with existing UK and European supply chains,” Kym Fullgrabe, senior trade commissioner for the UK and Israel, said.

Major Australian companies contributing to the Games include Lend Lease, project manager for the construction of the Athlete’s Village, SKM, engineering temporary structures such as the basketball arena, and Populous, with a sports architecture team in the consortium awarded the contract to design and build the main Olympic stadium, as well as smaller architectural services.
