Here is the review that appeared in Supply Management magazine:

I was somewhat overwhelmed when this book, containing 400 pages of modern supply chain theory interspersed with a myriad of diagrams and graphs, landed on my desk. Thankfully, it offers excellent practical advice as well as relevant modern theory.

The author argues that in order to achieve sustained corporate performance organisations have to align their operations to both internal and external customers. If you understand both your customers and suppliers you will able to improve supply chain performance. It explains, through its various contributors, tools and tips on how to set up and enhance a supply chain - from how to approach the market to how shape the internal capabilities of staff. This book successfully explains how to achieve this in practice.

A minor issue is this book assumes the reader already has a detailed understanding of how supply chains work in the real world. But it wouldn't have hurt to open it up to a wider audience, given its benefits. Some of the case studies are great and give valuable insight into how advice can be turned into action. I felt slightly confused about the relevance of some of them and their placement within the book. You will go from reading theory on the evolution of supply chains and then jump straight into humanitarian supply chains in action.

But these issues should not take away from the benefits. I would strongly recommend Dynamic Supply Chain Alignment, but be warned: it is not for the faint-hearted. Get ready to be engrossed by some of the most relevant and advanced supply chain advice out there.
