The current global economic downturn is impacting more severely on the travel industry than any previous downturns, such as the post 911 decline in 2001-2002. With airlines scrambling to cut capacity in order to reduce costs and boost yields and major shifts in use of accommodation providers, it would be fair to say that the industry is in a state of turmoil. As usual when we see a period of significant change, this raises a number of questions:
