$34m to ensure resource companies send procurement work locally not offshore

The government has revealed a $34.4 million Buy Australian at Home and Abroad package in this year’s budget that aims to provide an incentive package for local firms and overcome the problems they have when major resource companies send manufacturing, design and procurement work for new projects offshore.

The move comes after the local steel industry complained about its inability to compete with foreign firms for work on resource projects, and with an estimated $76 billion investment in mining expected in the year ahead.
