Buy local campaigns could have boomerang effect30 Jun 2009Source: Courier Mail, 20 June 2009 Will the "Buy Australia" campaigns of the Queensland and NSW governments be a boost for local companies and jobs, or a boomerang that will come back to whack them? Both governments this week stepped further beyond the traditional state government role of providing essential services – health, education and transport – and into trade and employment policy. Many analysts say the global economy, while in a deep recession, is showing signs the worst falls are over. They say the key will now be how the world economy is preparing to create jobs. Without jobs, consumers can't consume and business and household spending will further dissolve. |
