The state of the art of Category Management

14 Sep 2010

On behalf of CIPSA, The Faculty will be running a survey during October as part of a study into category management practices in Australasia.

As procurement becomes more mature and the associated spend continues to increase, procurement professionals are increasingly seeking new and innovative ways to deliver value from the categories of spend they manage.  For many organisations the concept of category management seems to offer some exciting possibilities but it is not always clear exactly what category management is or how and when it should be applied.

CIPSA has defined Category Management as, ‘The entire art & science of supply chain management applied to a single category of expenditure.’

The 2011 CIPSA-Faculty study ‘The State of the Art of Category Management’ will document the current state and explore the application and perception of category management in the region.  The study will involve a broad cross-section of industries and sectors to deliver a truly regional perspective on this important topic, with the findings to be released at the 4th Annual CIPSA Category Management Forum in April 2011.

Check your inbox in early October for an invitation to participate or email The Faculty at research@thefaculty.com.au
