China/India trade triggers Australian supply chain boom

China and India’s appetite for coal and iron ore has sparked an increase in national infrastructure projects that will have an enormous knock-on effect for Australian supply chains.  

"There is so much opportunity here," says Philippe Bouqet, Australia Construction Head at French builder Bouygues SA who were hoping to win some of the contracts that would see more than 4500 kilometres of railway built across Australia and a number of new ports with the capacity to handle almost 1.5 billion metric tons per year.

Leighton Holdings, Bechtel Group and General Electric were among other companies hoping to get a piece of the $112 billion pie.

The demand, coupled with economic slowdowns in the US and European markets, has helped to make Australia develop the world’s fastest-growing construction markets.
