High level participation in CIPSA Contract Manager Survey

11 Jan 2012

More than 20 per cent of the entire CIPSA membership took part in the recent study on Contract Management Styles, with the full results to be released in a CIPSA White Paper early in 2012.

Nearly 500 CIPSA members participated in the study which analyses what procurement professionals believe is important when it comes to using contracts and how they behave when managing contracts, based on the six commonly observed styles developed by the highly respected Cullen Group through practice and research over the last 25 years.

CIPS Australasia Managing Director Jonathan Dutton FCIPS said the high level of participation in the study highlighted the importance of contract management.

“The level of participation is a clear indication of the interest in the area of contract style and management, and of the importance that contract management has in the procurement profession,” Dutton said.

“Those who participated in the survey received a personalised report on their responses.

“The survey shows that of the six styles of contract manager – one style in particular was dominant among respondents – up to ten times more frequently identified than any other style.

“Interestingly CPO and Director level respondents proved to have very little in common with the people they manage – in regard to ‘style’. Which begs the question, does your style change when you achieve executive level or do you have to change your style to reach executive level?” he said.

The Contract Management Style White Paper will provide details and expand on these thoughts so it is sure to be one of the more popular publications in the series.
