Security of supply - survival lessons from the economic rollercoaster
It is unlikely that procurement practitioners will ever experience such diversity in economic operating conditions as witnessed over the last three years. 2007/8 peaked as an unprecedented economic bubble in WA and beyond – demand greatly outstripping supply and the sourcing of goods & services was almost “at any cost”. Then the bubble was lanced in late 2008 with the emergence of the GFC – seeing the world plunge into a massive recession where “cash was king”. Incredible and turbulent times!
The CIPSA WA committee would like to invite you to hear Dave Miller present a case study on business continuity and supply chain consolidation amidst an environment of economic turmoil. This will be based on the experience of the Fortescue Metals Group.
Speaker
Dave Miller, General Manager Procurement at Fortescue Metals Group, an iron ore miner based in Perth WA. A Mining Engineer by trade, Dave has enjoyed 25 years in the resources industry. Starting off in explosives, his roles & responsibilities transitioned from technical to business management – gaining valuable firsthand experience in understanding the modus operandi of a large global supplier. Morphing the supplier experience into a procurement environment 10 years ago was relatively logical and Dave currently is heavily focused on embedding a service based procurement function into a fast paced operational environment.
