CIPSA WA 'Procurement and Internal Audit' event a success

01 Jul 2011

The CIPSA ‘Procurement and Internal Audit – A Marriage of Convenience’ event was recently hosted by the Western Australia Regional Committee.

The presentation was facilitated by Deloitte who presented a challenging perspective on what procurement professionals should expect from internal auditors.

Presenters Andrew Baldwin, an internal auditor, and Anthony Robinson, a performance and improvement specialist for the mining and resources sector confirmed that at times the respective functions are compatible and complementary, and at times can be perceived to be at odds.

Procurement was highlighted as a “natural target” of internal audit, as it is the second highest spend area of most organisations after labour and payroll.

The presentation concluded that there has been a cultural shift for both procurement and internal audit, which has brought two corporate cousins closer together. The contemporary requirement for both internal auditors and procurement professionals is to operate a lean agile organisation that can rapidly adjust to changing business and commercial requirements.
