New CIPSA White Paper analyses Christchurch reconstruction efforts06 May 2011The latest CIPS Australasia White Paper explains how the New Zealand Ministry of Economic Development (MED) responded to the multiple earthquakes which hit Christchurch in September and February respectively while keeping in mind the best practice principles of professional procurement. ‘Case Study – Canterbury Earthquake Procurement Support’ analyses the importance of immediate response to best support emergency situations, which were exacerbated when the second earthquake hit on 22nd February 2011. The case study highlights the responsive capabilities of procurement professionals whilst demonstrating stakeholder appreciation of the wide range of benefits that can be delivered by a professional procurement team. The New Zealand MED is to be commended for their responsiveness in the situations, especially given the midst of human tragedy which they faced following the February earthquake. The New Zealand MED will present a case study on how procurement can best support emergency situations and will present their experiences from this case study at the 6th CIPSA Public Sector Procurement Conference in Canberra on 24th may 2011 as part of a section covering emergency procurement and logistics management. And with the seemingly growing frequency and severity of natural disasters, the topic of emergency procurement and supply management is as important as ever and is one worth even greater study and preparedness. |
