More than 400 people attended the CIPS Pan-African Procurement Awards 2011 in Johannesburg recently, where the 2011 winners were unveiled.

Speaking before the winners were announced, chairman of the awards adjudication panel Dr Douglas Boateng said the entries compared well with the best he’s seen in Europe and the US.

“We’re really coming up now and it’s really good to see, it’s been a long journey,” he said.

Boateng particularly highlighted some entries from Ghana and Nigeria as impressive, especially given the challenging environment in which supply chain management professionals operate in those countries. He also expressed a wish to see more than 50 per cent of awards entries in the next five years coming from nations outside of South Africa.
