Federal Minister's UK visit focuses on defence procurement issues

Defence Material Minister Jason Clare recently held talks in the United Kingdom with defence officials on procurement issues including the acquisition of the surplus UK landing ships Largs Bay.

Clare, accompanied by navy chief Vice Admiral Ray Griggs, earlier talked to US and Australian commanders and troops at the multi-national base Tarin Kowt and Camp Baker in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and at Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.
After the UK, they head for Spain, meeting defence officials and inspecting work on the hulls of the two new Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships now under construction in Ferrol, Spain.
