COAG signs off on transport reform

The Federal Government has reached an agreement on transport regulators after a recent COAG meeting which is set to boost national income by up to $30 billion over the next 20 years.

The agreement means there will be one regulator for maritime, rail and heavy vehicles, cutting the number of transport regulators across Australia from 23 to three.

The government said the changes will reduce the compliance burden on the transport industry by ending the need for mountains of paperwork and multiple fees.
