Engineering company Downer EDI Ltd has been awarded a $60 million procurement, engineering and construction contract by OneSteel Manufacturing Ltd to build a plant in South Australia.

Downer says the contract will see the company construct an iron ore beneficiation plant, scheduled for completion by February next year.

Last week Downer advised that it had secured $275 million of new contract wins, with Downer's share likely to be $140 million in revenue.

For the first half of the 2011 financial year Downer booked a net loss of $103.8 million.
