Publication of embassy floor plans in line with procurement guidelines: DFAT

The Department of Foreign Affairs  is denying a breach of security by the publication of plans for the new Australian embassy in Jakarta, stating the ‘non-classified’ plans need to be submitted to meet procurement guidelines.

A DFAT spokesperson  said that during the fit-out stage of new chancery offices, ‘non-classified’ floor plans must be submitted to local authorities, building owners and works contractors in order to obtain  approvals and comply with Commonwealth procurement guidelines.

'Providing this information to the committee forms part of the obligation of the Government to ensure appropriate Parliamentary scrutiny of public expenditure,' the spokesperson said.
