Federal Government procurement increases by $10 billion

The Federal Government spent around $42.6 billion procuring goods and services in the 2009-2010 financial year, up around $10 billion from its spend in 2008-2009, legal firm Norton Rose has reported.

The spend makes the Commonwealth one of the largest purchasers in Australia and highlights a dramatic increase in Commonwealth procurement over the last few years.

The Commonwealth spent just under $33 billion in the 2008-2009 financial year and approximately $26.3 billion in 2007-2008.
