First steps for Australian national food 'whole of supply chain strategy07 Dec 2010Source: Food Magazine The development of a strategic framework for Australia’s food industry has begun, with members from Industry and government meeting for the first round of discussions this Monday. The 13-member forum was chaired by Federal Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig and attended by Industry members such as the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC). AFGC Deputy Chief Executive Geoffrey Annison, said food manufacturers, who have been calling for a national food and grocery strategy over the past two years, were relieved talks had begun. “Industry is under immense pressure at the moment and it’s encouraging that the Government says it wants to adopt the same ‘strategic approach to food manufacturing’ that has been taken with the car industry,” Mr Annison said. “Having a partnership approach for the group involving relevant stakeholders and leading food manufacturers, including Simplot Australia, is vital to plan and achieve a whole-of-supply chain strategy to ensure Australia has a safe, nutritious, affordable and sustainable food supply into the future.” Read more here |
