Taking transport, logistics and supply chain to geography classrooms

14 Jul 2009

In order to improve secondary school students’ understanding of the transport, logistics and supply chain sector, TDT Victoria has released a resource kit for teachers.

This new resource kit, The Right Move – Geography of Logistics and Supply Chain, provides class content that enables transport, logistics and supply chain to be taught within the Year 7-8 geography syllabus.

Alongside classroom learning, the resource kit will help students discover the reality and variety of one of our largest and fastest moving industry sectors, which provides a wide range of interesting and well paid careers that are often overlooked by young people.

The transport, logistics and supply chain industry is a massive industry worth nearly 15% of Victoria’s gross state product and employs around 334,000 people. It underpins the success of many other industries such as manufacturing, mining, retail, food and tourism and includes disciplines from business, law, accountancy and ICT yet goes almost unseen within our daily lives.

The Right Move was developed by TDT Victoria, Victoria's Industry Training Advisory Board for the Transport and Logistics industry, and supported by a steering committee that included members of the Geography Teachers Association of Victoria, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, and industry.  TDT Victoria is a member of the Transport & Logistics Industry Round Table, which has also endorsed the The Right Move.

For more information about this resource kit, please contact TDT Victoria on (03) 9326 7211 or info@tdtvictoria.org.au.
