Major Australian food manufacturer makes offshore move to NZ

Heinz is closing a factory in Northern Victoria at the expense of 146 jobs, while another 160 jobs will go at its subsidiary Golden Circle’s Northgate plant in Brisbane, as the company moves productions offshore to New Zealand.

Heinz Chief Executive Nigel Comer has defended the decision to shift work to Hastings, New Zealand, saying it will ensure the Australian future of the company.

Some Australian plants will however remain open.
