India in move to central health procurement

India is taking steps to radically change the nature of health procurement jobs in the country.??The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is proposing to overhaul the existing system for the purchase of medicines with a new Central Procurement Agency (CPA).

Insisting that the current approach to health procurement and distribution is transparent, the government hopes the plans will improve the way things are done at the moment. Key to the move is to put in place a "transparent and competitive system" for procurement to ensure goods are bought at competitive prices. The government said the CPA will create a more efficient supply chain that will prevent stock-outs and reduce wastage. In addition, quality control will improve so the public receive products that are of a high standard. The news comes there is growing clamour in the UK for the government to take a more centralised approach to procurement to save money.
