India opens up to global supply chains

India has opened itself up to supplier input from across the globe after its government agreed to allow foreign multi-brand retailers to own up to 51 per cent of joint ventures in India.

The move has paved the way for international supermarkets and departments stores to establish joint ventures, a major step in opening one of the last great consumer markets that has been off-limits to many of the world’s biggest retailers.
