India suspends plans to open up to foreign supply chains

India has shelved recently-announced plans (http://www.pponline.com.au/html/indiasupply.cfm) to allow international supermarkets and department stores to enter the country, which would have opened the country up to greater supplier input from across the globe.

The latest announcement suspends a Cabinet decision to allow 51 per cent foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail until an agreement on how to do it is reached among the nation’s main political parties.
