Indigenous businesses have tender rules eased

Small and medium-sized indigenous businesses will no longer have to tender for commonwealth contracts under a federal government plan to increase indigenous employment.

Under the new plan, government departments will directly approach indigenous-owned and run companies and offer them contracts (goods and services) for government projects, provided they can do the work at competitive rates.

The government said that the plan would make it easier for indigenous businesses – which are often up against much bigger companies – to formally apply for contracts.
