IT procurement to stall as government finds its feet

The Australian Computer Society has renewed calls for a minister dedicated to an IT portfolio as industry awaits a new Finance Minister. ACS chief executive Bruce Lakin hopes the Gillard government will consider consolidating IT into a single portfolio. He lamented the fact that in the past there have been instances where the ACS had to deal with several ministers to resolve a single IT issue.

Ovum public sector research director, Kevin Noonan delivered an early warning for IT vendors, saying procurement could be stalled as the government finds its feet. "The incoming government is likely to behave more like a first term government as they have to find their stride,” he said in a statement. “This may cause a continuing pause in IT purchasing for some time yet. "Mr Noonan said many whole-of-government IT projects on the drawing board would be scrapped with the loss of the loss of the Gershon IT reinvestment fund under Labor.
