Emulating a journey he undertook at the end of the 1991 recession, Lindsay Fox has taken to the road again to mobilise the industry to create jobs for the unemployed.
Lindsay Fox and former ACTU president Bill Kelty were first asked by the then prime minister Paul Keating after the 1991 recession to head up a travelling jobs road-show, to try and convince business owners to provide work for the unemployed, especially in disadvantaged suburbs and country areas.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has implored the pair to get back on the road, and they have kicked off a new jobs road-show in Dandenong, in Melbourne.
They will target 20 disadvantaged areas around Australia and will travel to Sydney later this week.
"We got 60,000 jobs in the 90s. We were on the road for probably 15 months. It was probably the most rewarding experience I have had in my lifetime," Mr Fox said.
