Shortage of logistics staff hits US companies' suplly chains

US corporate supply chains are being adversely affected because increasingly stringent federal security and safety regulations are making it tougher for US logistics companies to find suitable staff, a new report warns. According to the Journal of Commerce, jobs in the logistics and transport sectors once considered unskilled now come with "unprecedented requirements" - from security background checks to training and expertise in new technology and sophisticated equipment.

This shortage of staff across the US logistics sector is "literally changing the face of shipping" and will have a profound impact on corporate supply chains the study noted: "While the industry is moving cautiously on any large-scale hiring, senior managers are preparing for the inevitable expansion, and the likely increase in labour costs that will reverberate throughout supply chains and ultimately to freight pricing," it warned.
