LAA event: Navy Supply - Ensuring the Team Works

26 Jul 2010

Capt. Steve O'Keefe, Royal Australian Navy, will discuss Navy supply chains at a half-day seminar at Uni SA on Wednesday 8 September.

Naval warships are self contained floating cities that operate across the planet’s many waterways. Sustaining these cities is a complex task, especially when the city is expected to be placed in harm’s way and operate away from port for months at a time. Although necessities such as ammunition, fuel and food are the lifeblood of war, it is also critical to have dynamic and responsive supply chains to deliver the myriad items required to sustain a ship and its crew for months on end.

Predominantly based on the presenter's experience in the amphibious ship HMAS KANIMBLA during Coalition combat operations against Iraq in 2003, this presentation will deal with some of the unique aspects of maritime logistic support in the Persian Gulf.

Further, this presentation will examine the organic logistics support in Navy’s ships, the support provided by different fleet units and the organisation and infrastructure required to sustain the dynamic needs of the maritime supply chain.

The event will be held at the UniSA West Campus and will run from 10am to 1pm on September 8. Please email admin@laa.asn.au for more information.
