Navy 'all at sea' in French manual procurement setback

A 13 year, $655 million project for anti-submarine MU90 torpedos to be installed on two classes of warship has arrived in Australia... with one slight problem: the manuals for using and installing them are written in Italian and French.

Consequently, Australia’s defence procurement agency has tendered for someone to translate the highly classified instructions for the torpedo. The buying of these torpedos has been savaged by the government auditor.

Defence has said that it will pay no more than $110,100 for the translation service, but it will cover the cost of flights and accommodation.
