New UK government strategy for IT procurement22 Sep 2010Source: Public Service UK The UK government is to become a better and more intelligent buyer of ICT, Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude has said. Responding to a parliamentary question Maude explained that the government has been working to make immediate savings on existing contracts and that a new strategy for IT procurement would be adhered to in the future. He said: "We have already taken major steps to reduce costs through the implementation of an immediate freeze on all new ICT spend above £1 million; a review of the government's biggest projects, including ICT projects, to see where costs can be reduced or wasteful projects stopped altogether; and the renegotiation of contracts with major suppliers across government." The government has already signed agreements with major IT companies Atos Origin and Capgemini following negotiations launched by the Cabinet Office in July. Read more here |
