New NSW procurement group set to be 'one of the most important' in ICT

The NSW government is set to form a procurement body to standardise how it spends its $2billion technology budget.

The procurement and technical standards working group will start within the next few weeks and is tasked with creating the specifications and methods of buying every piece of technology from computers and software to telephones.

Although several other working groups have been formed to create the government’s new ICT strategy, set to be released in March, NSW Minister for Finance and Service Greg Pearce said the procurement group would be one of the most important.

“It’s about making sure that we get the benefit of very good standards as a base and that we get the benefits of cost-savings and can use our platforms with maximum adaptability,” he said.
