UK companies commit to sustainable paper procurement

Consumer goods giant Unilever has announced a policy of sustainable procurement of its paper packaging. Unilever plans to source 100 per cent of its paper and cardboard packaging material from sustainably managed forests by 2020.?

Marc Engel, Unilever's chief procurement officer, said it was important Unilever promote sustainable forestry practices and help combat deforestation and climate change. This announcement comes soon after it was reported in the Guardian newspaper that its parent company Guardian News and Media achieved sustainable timber (PEFC) certification for the paper used in its Guardian Saturday magazine and the Observer magazine.
