3PL PhD research study

18 Nov 2010

Yangyan Shi, PhD student at The University of Auckland Business School is looking for input from procurement professionals to complete his PhD research.

His research focuses on purchasing service as a value-added service for 3PL providers. 3PL providers have expertise in materials handling, transportation management, and maintaining good relationships with suppliers. It is possible for 3PL providers to obtain necessary information on purchasing requests from their users, and to exert group purchasing power to bargain for a cheaper price for the clients.

Although most 3PL providers may not currently offer this service, Yangyan hopes his research will identify whether 3PL providers are willing to offer this service in future, and whether 3PL users may potentially use this service.
