Global car manufacturer Porsche, has creates a separate procurement department in response to purchasing’s growing significance at the company.

“Our purchasing volume is growing not only because of the current development of the economy but above all because of ambitious corporate goals which Porsche has defined for the forthcoming years, Matthias Müller, chairman of the board of management, said.

“This means that procurement will clearly have a greater weight in future. I am glad that we now have Uwe-Karsten Städter as a new colleague on the board of management. He is a very experienced procurement manager who has known the car industry for decades,” Müller said.

Since 2007, Städter has been head of electrics/electronics group procurement at Volkswagen, a company he joined in 1974. He will move from the VW base in Wolfsburg to Porsche in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, Germany.

While with VW, Städter held roles covering power train, metal and electrical system procurement, and chemical products purchasing for the interior and exterior of the Seat brand

The function previously sat within the finance and business department. From 1 April, Uwe-Karsten Städter will be the company’s new board member in charge of purchasing.
