Procurement Professional Awards winners 200915 Oct 2009Last night’s Procurement Professional Awards dinner at the 5th CIPSA Annual Conference celebrated the achievements of the very best procurement practice in the region.
CIPSA Managing Director Jonathan Dutton says, “The annual Procurement Professional Awards dinner provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate some of the outstanding achievements from within the Australasian procurement profession.” The Institute would like to extend sincere thanks to the judging panel chaired by Jim McGuire MCIPS, whose time, experience and expertise ensure the Procurement Professional Awards represent world class practice. In addition to the award categories assessed by the judging panel that organisations enter, CIPS Australia awards the CIPS Leadership Award each year to a person or organisation making an outstanding and ongoing contribution to the profession. This year the Papua New Guinea Government Central Supply and Tenders Board (CTSB) received the CIPS Leadership Award, which was presented by Dr Afolabi. In his citation, Dr Afolabi paid tribute to the work of the CTSB in bringing much-needed procurement reform to the Papua New Guinea public sector. “This work has been achieved within a very complex political environment, despite almost impossible geographical obstacles, and in an economy the World Bank ranks as 126th in the world.” For the first time, the Young Professional of the Year award winner, Marissa Brown from BAE Systems, was invited to join the CIPSA Steering Group for a period of twelve months. Announcing the invitation, Steering Group Chair John Tondut MCIPS emphasized the importance of representing a broad cross-section of the profession, including younger professionals. The CIPS Australasia Essay Competition prize was presented at the beginning of the awards ceremony. Alana Tweddle from BlueScope Steel won $2,500 and a trip to the conference with her entry, Emission impossible: Implications for the procurement function. Award winners are listed below. Look out for more information about their achievements in the December edition of Procurement Professional magazine.
