Local Gov. launches Procurement Professional Program with CIPSA

30 Jun 2009

Minister for Local government The Hon Richard Wynne has launched the Victorian Local Government Procurement Professional Program, part of an integrated training strategy to enhance the professionalism of procurement across the sector.

Local Government Victoria has developed the CIPS accredited Procurement Professional Program for council officers looking to develop their skills and achieve recognised procurement credentials.

The program, officially launched on Friday 26 June, falls with Local Government Victoria’s Local Government Procurement Strategy, part of the wider Councils Reforming Business project.

Developed with the assistance of the Procurement and Contracting Centre for Education and Research (PACCER) and Contract and Tendering Services (CTS), the program is the first of its kind in Australia; combining Australian Qualifications Authority units with CIPS modules to deliver the internationally recognised CIPS Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Purchasing and Supply.

In addition to the CIPS qualification, participants completing the program are eligible for Local Government Victoria Procurement professional Program certification, entry into CIPS Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Purchasing and Supply and Diploma Membership status with CIPS Australia.

Managing Director of CIPS Australia (CIPSA) Jonathan Dutton says CIPSA is pleased to be working with the State in developing procurement capability and professionalism.

“CIPSA is committed to professional development and will continue to support valuable initiatives.

“This is an excellent pathway for local government procurement professionals to upskill and gain recognition for their professional competencies.”
