Procurement a 'real competitive advantage' for private-label giant

McBride, Europe's largest provider of private label household and consumer goods products, has announced an increase in operating profit of 38% thanks, in large part, to an emphasis on procurement, which it described as providing 'a real competitive advantage'. ??
The group, which suppliers 90% of Europe's largest retailers, and which also announced a huge increase in return on capital employed from 17.1% to 25.9%, pointed to excellence in procurement as the reason it was able to offset rises in raw-material costs.'We differentiate ourselves in the private-label sector by focusing on new product development, category development with customers and customer service,' the company stated in its end of year financial results. 'These, combined with a continuous drive for operational efficiency and procurement savings, enable the Group to deliver products of outstanding value.'
