"Suppliers perceive corruption in NSW state government procurement" claim ICAC report

Corruption is systemic within the NSW government’s procurement process, according to a survey of 1500 suppliers to the public sector which is backed up by the state’s corruption watchdog.

Favouritism, leaking confidential information during the process and the offer of cash and other gifts to government employees are all suspected to be happening when tendering for public contracts.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) released two reports that detailed the survey results and confirmed that corruption was "systemic" across all tiers of government.

"Each year, approximately 12 per cent of complaints received by the ICAC include allegations of corruption in NSW government procurement, and approximately 30 per cent of our public inquiries make findings of corrupt conduct related to NSW government procurement activities," the report states.
