Floods cost QLD coal industry billions in exports

Major flooding caused Queensland’s annual coal exports to fall about 40 million tonnes and $7 billion below expectations.

The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) said the state was well on track to export more than 200 million tonnes of coal in 2010-11.

Consequently, flooding turned what should have been a record year for the Queensland coal industry into a result only marginally better than that seen during the global financial crisis.
