Qld electricity procurement programme to drive savings

An electricity pilot procurement programme aimed at helping businesses reduce their electricity is on track to save participating customers $7 million a year, Queensland’s Energy Minister said.

Stephen Robertson said Ergon Energy's Demand Management Pilot Program, based in north Queensland, has cut greenhouse gas emissions by 42,000 tonnes a year.

One of the participants, James Cook University, reduced its electricity bill by $2 million a year by installing a central chiller plant to air condition its campus.
