Queensland government enters $50m deal to address skills shortages

The Queensland industry will be able to access up to $2 million in government grants under a partnership to train new workers in a bid to heed off future skills shortages. 

Premier Anna Bligh said the grants would be available through statutory authority Skills Queensland from a pool of $50 million a year.

She said places such as technical colleges had driven skills training previously.

"This is really about industry saying, `now when we look at our business plan over the next 10 years we can see we want to be exporting to that market and what they need is this and we want to be there and that's the skills we'll need to get there'," she said.
