QLD to save $10m with whole of govt microsoft deal28 Jan 2010Source: The Australian, 26 January 2010 QUEENSLAND is set to save $10 million over three years because of a whole-of-government deal signed with Microsoft Australia late last year. The state spends $20m with Microsoft annually. It will now begin the march towards Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 7, migrating from Windows XP. According to Queensland IT Minister Robert Schwarten the savings will come from a consolidated approach to purchasing Microsoft products. The deal is the culmination of more than 12 months of work. In September 2008, the state signed a whole-of-government preliminary agreement with Microsoft. The final agreement, sealed in November last year, covers up to 150,000 employees from 17 departments over a three-year period. |
