Senate inquiry to investigate foreign procurement of agriculture

The Senate’s Rural Affairs Committee will conduct an inquiry into how the Foreign Investment Review Board’s ‘national interest test’ is applied to the procurement of Australian agricultural land and agribusiness. 

Restrictions apply when overseas investors buy residential properties in urban areas, but there are no such barriers when it comes to purchasing rural properties.

Regional towns are trying to attract investment but there is concern that fewer regulations exist for rural properties.
