UK service sector growth continues to slow

The latest Markit/CIPS UK Services Purchasing Managers Index shows growth in the service economy slowed in June, with confidence falling sharply. The survey also showed that business confidence for future activity suffered its greatest monthly drop in its 14-year history. Paul Smith, senior economist at Markit and author of the UK Services PMI said the results had serious economic implications and expressed concern the fiscal tightening could push the country back into recession.
