Steering Group gets Gen Y member

05 Nov 2009

In 2010 the CIPSA Steering Group will include a representative of procurement’s Gen Y community when Young Procurement Professional of the Year and, BAE Systems subcontracts officer, Marissa Brown begins her 12-month term.

For the first time, CIPSA has invited the winner of this award to join the Steering Group.

At the Procurement Professional Awards Dinner during the 5th CIPSA Annual Conference at Crown Palladium in October, the MC joked about reducing the average age of the Steering Group.  Issuing the invitation to join, Steering Group Chair John Tondut stressed the importance of striving to represent the whole profession at this strategic level.

“As we work to raise the profile of procurement, the talented young people that we try to attract must have a voice.  Especially Gen Y, who are the future lifeblood of our profession.”

Marissa is looking forward to providing that voice for those who are new to the profession.  “I hope to gain a greater understanding of CIPSA on a strategic level and am excited to learn from those who are highly regarded by the profession and build upon my networks.”

Expressing gratitude to former boss Nick Ford for his award submission on her behalf, she says this opportunity highlights the importance of having a mentor to offer guidance throughout a career.

“Nick has certainly opened doors for me within BAE Systems and encouraged me to be involved in promoting and supporting the procurement profession.”

Marissa received a bottle of something to celebrate with from their CEO too!
