Minister for Agriculture Senator Joe Ludwig has ordered a review that will investigate supply chain systems used in all Australian live animal export markets.

The independent review will be undertaken by former government official Bill Farmer AO. It comes after footage of cruelty and animal mistreatment in Indonesia was shown on the ABC’s Four Corners programme.

The review will examine the whole live animal export supply chain from paddock to the point of slaughter for all markets that receive Australian livestock.

“This review will support greater transparency across our export markets, and provide recommendations for the reform of the trade,” Minister Ludwig said.
