The  Mayor of Taipei,  Hau Lung-bin has approved the resignations of deputy mayor Lee Yong-ping and two top aides amid allegations of procurement irregularities that have taken a toll on the city government's image. At a press conference, Hau said the changes were being made to give his administration a new beginning, and he stressed that a city government probe into the allegations found that Lee and longtime aides Chuang Wen-su and Jen Hsiao-chi did not commit any errors related to the allegations.

The city has been accused of procuring materials for the Xinsheng Overpass improvement projects and the upcoming Taipei International Flora Expo at highly inflated prices. On Sept. 8, five former and incumbent Taipei City government officials were questioned and detained by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office as part of the investigation into price irregularities related to the overpass project.
